On the other hand, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were in the limelight for hitting a hat trick for Spain.

This update is of a recently held soccer match in England where Manchester United dropped their first points just after Peter Crouch’s first goal for Stoke securing a 1-1 draw at the Britannia Stadium.

United tried its best to maintain a two point lead at the top of the table after Portuguese winger Nani posed a threat to them on 27 minutes. As a result, Manchester United was left with a goal different from arch rivals that are none other than Manchester City.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both hit hat tricks when Barcelona and Real Madrid were on a Spanish goal rampage. This was Messi’s 12th career hat trick in a Barcelonashirt. Messi also has a record of 192 goals for Barcelona, which is just 2 less from Laszlo Kubala’s record.

However, the Portuguese forward is clear that he is not obsessed with the idea of being the top scorer, nor is he obsessed with the idea of winning the Pichichi, Spain’s top scorer award.

Praising his team’s efforts, Cristiano Ronaldo adamantly said that being the top scorer is not the only thing going on in his mind.

The chances of Cristiano Ronaldo’s top score were enhanced by his impressive hat trick in a match with 4-0 victory. This hat trick marks the seventh for the player this season.

Ronaldo is on 36 La Liga goals now, which is already 5 ahead of Lionel Messi. He scored 48 goals in all competitions.

With another two goals in his lap, Cristiano Ronaldo can break the record of Hugo Sanchez of scoring 38 La Liga goals in a single season. And since Ronaldo still has two more games to go, it seems very much possible.

However, Cristiano is certain that he is not obsessed with overtaking the record. He says that he is fighting to be the top scorer but it’s not to break any records. He further said that the priority right now is to win our remaining league games and the team is working hard for it.

UEFA president Michael Platini has maintained his stand on the fact that he viewed the record signing of Cristiano Ronaldo by Real Madrid as indecent. Real Madrid has reportedly signed Ronaldo for a whopping 94 million euros. The UEFA president who was on a visit to the Spanish giants’ stadium expressed his opinion that the amount seemed indecent in a news conference at the Santiago Bernabeu. The remarks came just before the clash between Real and AC Milan in the Champions League. The following transfer rumors spread like a wildfire and seem to be really hot.

Platini who sat beside Florentino Perez, the President of the Real Madrid, admitted to having no problems with the signing as he felt that it was not a big deal for a club like Real who has the money to make such record signing. Everything seemed perfectly alright between the two top guns. UEFA had earlier sought to curb the splurges which the clubs had been indulging in. Perez also went up to the extent of saying that the relationship between Real Madrid and UEFA and between its officials have always been smooth and hoped that it would continue to remain so. He described the ties between two parties as excellent.

Real Madrid came under the hammer for signing Ronaldo from Manchester City and Kaka from AC Milan. Platini has termed the transfers as a serious challenge to the idea of fairplay and the Vatican newspaper felt that the Real’s spending splurge may push soccer clubs towards bankruptcy. Perez who has the credit of bringing top notch stars like Zidane and Figo to Real, made it public that the club has a budget of 422 million euros in the upcoming season.

Today’s Story: A highlight for today is not anything real big but big enough. Before signing with Chelsea, Deco waved off very lucrative bids from the MLS and Saudi Arabia. It seems that the MLS is getting more and more serious about bringing in talent to the States. This is good news. He mentions that many teams offered him the money too. Which means that more than one team is getting into the future of American soccer. I also respect Deco’s decision to play for love of the game and not money.
Rumble:

Ronaldo is staying at United after all. Maybe it was the words of Gordon Banks and Pele that made him re-think his decision or maybe it was Man U’s decision to keep him. Who knows? The only bit of news is, as of right now, Cristiano Ronaldo is still a red.

Carlos Villanueva has joined the Premiership side Blackburn. The Chilean international looks to improve the Blackburn midfield this season.

Frank Lampard has finally come to his decision: He wants a move to Inter. The only thing blocking him is Chelsea. Lampard has only a year left on his contract and since Chelsea has made no publicly known moves to extend him, he has looked elsewhere. Also, he is highly coveted by his old boss, Jose Mourinho.

There are many reports out that are stating that Kaka would like to leave AC and join Chelsea. Whether these reports are true or not, Milan has said that Kaka is not for sale. Period.
