decoplayer After spending over a decade in Europe, Portuguese midfielder and former Chelsea player, Deco is excited at the prospect of returning to Brazil and is looking forward to the challenge. The Brazil born midfielder has left English champions Chelsea to join Brazilin club Fluminense, the league-leader.

It has been a longtime dream for Deco to come back and play in his birthplace and after spending about 13 years playing for some of the best clubs across Europe, he will bring in rich experience for the Brazilian club.

Deco still had another year left in his contract with Chelsea, but he didn’t feel motivated enough to continue and wanted something that he always desired for, as he approaches the twilight of his highly decorated career. He has also hinted that Fluminense could be his last football club.

Today’s Story: A highlight for today is not anything real big but big enough. Before signing with Chelsea, Deco waved off very lucrative bids from the MLS and Saudi Arabia. It seems that the MLS is getting more and more serious about bringing in talent to the States. This is good news. He mentions that many teams offered him the money too. Which means that more than one team is getting into the future of American soccer. I also respect Deco’s decision to play for love of the game and not money.

Rumble:

  • Ronaldo is staying at United after all. Maybe it was the words of Gordon Banks and Pele that made him re-think his decision or maybe it was Man U’s decision to keep him. Who knows? The only bit of news is, as of right now, Cristiano Ronaldo is still a red.
  • Carlos Villanueva has joined the Premiership side Blackburn. The Chilean international looks to improve the Blackburn midfield this season.
  • Frank Lampard has finally come to his decision: He wants a move to Inter. The only thing blocking him is Chelsea. Lampard has only a year left on his contract and since Chelsea has made no publicly known moves to extend him, he has looked elsewhere. Also, he is highly coveted by his old boss, Jose Mourinho.
  • There are many reports out that are stating that Kaka would like to leave AC and join Chelsea. Whether these reports are true or not, Milan has said that Kaka is not for sale. Period.

Ronaldinho Update

So it seems that Ronaldinho and Barca have come to an intersection about him staying or leaving. They both have 72 hours to decide what to do. If no agreement is reached, then ‘dinho will begin training with the team. I personally like Ronaldinho, as he is a valuable asset to any team. The good thing with the Barca situation is that there is a new coach and they have brought in a lot of new faces. Already last year’s side has been shaken up with additions and subtractions.

Plus(4):

  • Seydou Keita
  • Gerard Pique
  • Martin Caceres
  • Dani Alves

Minus(7):

  • Edmilson
  • Zambrotta
  • Gio Dos Santos
  • Thuram
  • Ezquerro
  • Deco
  • Eto’o

A possible reason for a ‘dinho departure could be team chemistry. Since Ronaldinho has caused so much media commotion and so on and so forth. One might say that the team chemistry might decrease however, since so many have left and been replaced, this probably won’t be an issue caused by ‘dinho. Also, with the departure of Gio Dos Santos, who would be ‘dinho’s replacement? I can not say what Pep Guardiola and company will do with Ronaldinho. But I can speculate on their decision come 72 hours from the start of the deadline.

hey jason, nice article, and definitely something to think about. It is true that there is a huge gulf between say club soccer, high school soccer, and college level soccer. You know that I want to play at the NCAA level, but I do understand that, realistically, I'm just not
