David Moyes, manager of the Everton team looked really out of sorts at Turf Moor on Sunday. Speculations are that it was due to the consecutive defeats that Everton has suffered in the beginning of the Premier League matches. The manger has the onus to rebuild his team after Everton accepted the Manchester City’s offer for Lescott. After Wayne Rooney’s sale to Man U, the Lscott deal is being considered as the most lucrative deal for Everton making Lescott the costliest British defender.
Manchester City seems to be adopting a policy of divide and rule by taking Lescott out of the Everton team. The absence of Lescott was evident from the final score line in Everton’s matches against Arsenal and Burnley which read 6-1 and 1-0 against Everton respectively. The timing of the Lescott’s departure was also a major blow to the Everton side as they were left with just one week to find a replacement. The send off of Lescott meant that there was not much of a communication in the back four.
Lescott had scored 12 goals in the last two seasons of the Premier League which is five more than any other defender has been able to achieve. The £22m transfer to Manchester City has jeopardized the defensive dependability of the Everton side. The situation has been worsened by the knee ligament injury of Phil Jagielka whose participation seems very bleak this year.
Although Everton have Steven Taylor and Philippe Senderos, they are in no way a match to the Merseyside defender.
