Euro 2008 Groups

With the Euro 2008 set to start June 7, I have my analysis of the groups.

Group A:

Switzerland: Not quite sure, but I don’t think that this year will be their year to win or advance. By all means prove me wrong, it will make for better games.

Czech Republic(Runner-Up): Can possibly take the advancement away from Portugal. I also like that they have a Milan player, Jankulovski.

Portugal(Passes): I favor these guys not just because of Ronaldo…well considering that he is being considered the best player in the world as of right now, yeah Ronaldo does give them an advantage.

Turkey: Mixed feelings but they will probably end up at the bottom of the group.

Group B

Austria: A possible chance

Croatia(Runner-up): Bottom

Germany(Passes): Win the group and move on.
Poland: Near the bottom

Group C: The Group of Death: The groups are pretty evenly matched this time around. However, there is always a group that it is the group of death. This would have to be it.

Netherlands: The days of David are over but this team is filled with talent. van der sar, Robben, Sneijder, van der Vaart, Kuyt, Nistelrooy, and van Persie are just a few names to mention.

Italy(Passes): I mentioned the defending world champions in my last post. Pretty much the same team, new opposing group. I like them, so I go for them.

Romania: I don’t know how a team like Romania makes it and a team like England does not. However, I must give them respect. I like Inter’s Chivu and Fiorentina’s Mutu, they are clearly the stars of this team to me.

France(Runner-up): Very talented although the days of the masterful midfielder Zidane are over. Shamble. Anyhow, Henry, Nasri, Ribery, and many many others fill the void.

Group D

Greece: Very talented, but not good enough.

Sweden: See Greece.

Spain(Winner) : They will win by power and strength.

Russia(Runner-up): Their time will come and I am liking young goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev. He will one-day be considered one of the best in the world.

Further speculation to come.

hey jason, nice article, and definitely something to think about. It is true that there is a huge gulf between say club soccer, high school soccer, and college level soccer. You know that I want to play at the NCAA level, but I do understand that, realistically, I'm just not
