But Cierra Adams from Montgomery Central has proved everyone wrong by setting new heights and gaining immense acclaims in her role within such a short span of time. As a freshman during her first year with the team, Adams learnt some great game tactics.

According to the Central team coach Gary Gossett, Adams is really good in offensive scheme play and has excelled in her role. The season has gone exceptionally well for her as she scored 39 goals to smash all records during the season in school. This score is the highest till now scored in the history of Central’s soccer by any girl or boy. With this score, Adams even got the Leaf-Chronicle All-Area Soccer Player of the Year award.

Adams seems really excited. She understands understands the pressure of being a top scorer and to retain that position. As per the coach, the team works together without any ego clashes and supports each other. Till now, Adams has four hat tricks to her record. She also has a four goals game and a five goals game on her.

The best thing about Adams is that she has the ability to run faster with the ball. She even earned a hat trick in the recent district tournament quarterfinals. In the semifinals, however, the Lady Indians forfeited the game because of a brutal injury of their goalkeeper while playing against White House-Heritage. The season’s score for Central remained 11-9-2.

As the Cameroon international was at his devastating best to score a hat-trick, influential Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder also made his mark with a brilliant goal. Despite of the departure of their magical coach Jose Mourinho, Inter proved that they are still a team to fear with this stunning show.

The host did all the hard work in the first half by leading 3-0 within first 34 minutes of play and later on Eto’o finished off the victory by completing his triple. With this victory, Rafael Benitez team joined Tottenham at the top of Group A with four points each.

Although they lost by a huge margin, the first real attack came from Bremen itself when Hugo Almeida took a long range shot to the goal that was saved brilliantly by Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar after four minutes from start. The first breakthrough had come to Inter Milan in the 21st minute when Eto’o scored his first goal. He scored again with a pass from Maicon six minutes later. Bremen still could not defend Inter’s attacking football and Sneijder scored the third goal in the 34th min for his team.

Inter had to suffer a massive setback during the halftime when Julio Cesar got injured and was replaced by Luca Castellazi. After an hour of play Inter again lost their defender Lucio to what could be a knee injury, but still managed to continue their attacking football. The deadly combo of Eto’o and Sneijder worked again while Eto’o struck the fourth goal for his team after the 80th minute to clinch his hat-trick.

The change in the fortune came about as Messi managed to hit the net twice before half time and was ably supported by David Villa. The wonderful performance by the two stars meant that Barcelona had already taken an unassailable lead of 3-1 over their rivals before the half time.

Messi had a wonderful chance to score his hat-trick but Alexandros Tzorvas came with a wonderful save to deny him the opportunity in the 55th minute. Messi though more than made up for the miss as he managed to set up another couple of goals for his side in the later part of the game. Barcelona got through the Greek side’s defense when Dani Alves managed to net a wonderful scoop by Lionel Messi. The outcome of the match was just the way the Barca side wanted. They had hoped to make a winning start in the Group D opener and have their eyes set at Wembley stadium next year.

Barca was crowned European Champions for the first time in 1992 at Wembley stadium. The Catalan giants also managed to bring cheer to their fans after the dismal performance in La Liga. Barca started very aggressively and had three near misses inside the first 12 minutes of the game. The Champions League opener has set up the tournament nicely for the Barca side who would definitely try to repeat their amazing performance in the remaining matches.

Rio Ferdinand is all set to make his Premiere League comeback after an almost 3 months lay off due a knee injury. He played for around 45 minutes in a Manchester Senior Club game against Oldham Athletic and looked just about fine. Ferdinand is showing signs on fast recovery and is expected to make to the side very soon. He has been instrumental in Manchester United’s successes over the last few years and the fans as well as the team would be looking forward to his comeback.

The England captain suffered a knee injury during a training session with the national side just before the World Cup. He had to miss the finals earlier this year. It was hoped that he would be fit to play at the start of the season but that was recently ruled out by Sir Alex Fergusan. The United fan’s had another setback when it was announced that he would not be able to join the side until later this month.

It was a great to see Rio Ferdinand back in action as Paul Scholes watched from the stands and other Manchester United players rubbing shoulder against him. After the disappointment of last season, Manchester United will want to make amends this time round and Rio Ferdinand will play a crucial role if Manchester is to win this year.

It remains to be seen how soon Ferdinand makes a comeback, but the team as well as fans will hope that he get fit to play soon at the earliest and help Manchester United regain the English title.

Diego Maradona will get another opportunity to lead his country into a World Cup during the next tournament in Brazil. If things go as planned and Maradona accepts the offer, we will see the great man one more time in the playing area cheering his players.

It was widely speculated that after the dismal performance in this year’s World Cup, the Argentine football association will not extend Maradona’s contract but now it is clear that it wants Maradona to take charge of the national side for the next World Cup. The decision was made when the executive committee of AFA met recently to discuss about Maradona’s future and they decided that he was the best man to do the job and could help Argentina regain lost glory. Although nothing is official yet, the news of Maradona accepting the offer is making rounds.

As a player Maradona was inspirational in leading Argentina to World Cup glory in the 1986 finals and when he was appointed the coach of the national side a lot was expected out of him. But with no prior coaching experience and a number of problems related to health and personal life, he had a lot of problems in ensuring Argentina berth in this year’s finals.

However, during the World Cup it looked like he had finally adjusted as Argentina started very well, until they were thrashed by the Germans in the knock out round. It remains to be seen if he is able to redeem his stature and his ability as a coach. He has some great players at his disposal and if things go as planned, he could very well change the table this time round.

Defending champions and one of the sides that was highly likely to win this year’s World Cup, has crashed out the tournament. Italy was shown the door by Slovakia, who displayed tremendous composure and skills to beat the defending champions. The Slovakians, who were younger, faster and more determined deserved to win and they did, that too in style. Although Italy did find its touch during the last stages of the game and came pretty close to drawing level with Slovakia, it wasn’t good enough.

It wasn’t this match only that ensured that Italy will not move any further in the tournament. In fact, their game against New Zealand was the defining moment. New Zealand is by no means even a decent side and the way Italy struggled against them, gave sure signs to the fans that Italy wasn’t going to do too well this time round.

It is not that Italy was totally outplayed by the Slovakians. They had their opportunities but somehow could not take advantage of some wonderful goal scoring positions. It is very disappointing to see great sides go down the way Italy did. But I guess the team never played as a unit and when a side is unable to convert the chances into goals, it becomes very difficult to win matches. It wasn’t just the strikers’ inability to goal, even the defense that is known to be the best in the world could not live up to the expectations.

But, this time he isn’t playing for Argentina but is the coach. I am sure he would have loved to be on the ground playing, but Messi is ensuring that he feels there is someone who can fill the great man’s shoes.

Lionel Messi, just like Maradona wears the number 10 jersey and is widely considered as the best player of the current generation and has been compared with the greats of the past. But there is an uncanny resemblance that Messi shares with the great Maradona and his ability with the football has brought back memories of the golden years of Maradona.

So far in this world, Messi hasn’t been able to score but his contribution to his side’s victories is huge. He is not just a striker but also has this great ability to create scoring opportunities for others and this really sets him apart. It is unfortunate that he hasn’t scored yet, but it has been largely due to some great goal keeping.

Maradona is full of praise for this 22 year old Barcelona player and considers him as treat to watch. According of him, Messi should have majority of the ball as he is a great entertainer and the more you watch him, the more you want. Well, let us hope that he continues his great run and score lots of goals in this World Cup and help Argentina win the trophy.

Brazil’s World Cup hopes are largely dependent on Kaka’s form. The Real Madrid superstar is expected to play a major role in Brazil’s campaign this year in South Africa. Although a lot depends on him, Kaka himself has a few things to worry about. He has been largely affected by injuries and this could be a real problem for the playmaker. However, Kaka is confident that he will recover in time and play a big role in this year’s World Cup.

Kaka comes to South Africa after an injury disrupted season in Spain, as he suffered from thigh and groin injuries. His form has been far from what it was when he won the FIFA footballer of the year award once.

Doctors have assured that these injuries are a thing of pat now and Kaka will be fully fit to play Brazil’s opener. In fact, Kaka played for almost 45 minutes against Zimbabwe in a warm up match and after the match he said that though it wasn’t his best performance but he definitely felt strong and fit. This should come as a big relief to all the Brazil fans who have pinned their hopes on Kaka.

Kaka has been a part of Brazilin World Cup side last time where he managed to hold on to his position as a top player, in spite of having other superstars in the side. It remains to be seen if Kaka lives up to the expectations and helps Brazil win the World Cup after last times disappointment.

Diego Forlan’s second goal in extra time stopped Fulham from winning a major trophy for the first time in their history. To the heartbreak of millions of Fulham fans, Atletico Madrid defeated them 2-1 to lift the Europa League title. Spurred a superb performance by Deigo Forlan, who scored both the goals, Madrid executed a clinical display of football and held on to their nerves to score the winner in extra time.

It was a much needed victory for Atletico Madrid, as even they had not won any major tournament in last 14 years and it could not have come at a better place. The Europa league is one of the most respected tournaments in Europe.

The final took place Hamburg, Germany and Atletico started off very well and were very impressive throughout the game. Fulham also played good football, but that extra time goal sealed their fate. Had they managed to hold on for another 4 minutes, the match would have been decided by penalty shootout and Fulham had a great chance of setting their record.

Fulham fans would be extremely unhappy as this was their best chance of bringing home a major trophy. However, they should take heart from the fact that they made it to the finals and lost to a team which played better football on the day.

On the other hand, Madrid fans have all the more reason to cheer as they have always been overshadowed by Real Madrid. The coach would be very pleased with the team’s performance as they stuck to their game plan and kept the pressure on Fulham.

England’s World Cup bid suffered a major blow when ace midfielder Gareth Barry, playing for Manchester City was injured during a crucial English Premiership league match against Tottenham, which City lost by a solitary goal and also missed out from the opportunity of playing in next years champions league. Barry injured his ankle during the game and will be out of action for at least four weeks.

Barry plays a crucial role in England’s scheme of things and this injury has put Fabio Capello, the English coach in a fix as he doesn’t have a lot of options in Midfield. The most logical option for Capello is Manchester United’s Michael Carrick, but he has also been struggling to hit form. In these circumstances Capello would most likely include Barry in the 30 man probable squad. If the recovery is smooth, Barry is likely to have a week’s time before the World Cup to prove his fitness.

Capello is most likely to give him this chance, as he one of the pillars of English midfield. He will miss the friendlies but Capello and the rest of England will be hoping that he recovers in time and is fit to play the World Cup.

Gareth Barry is regarded highly in English football and has been instrumental in helping England qualify for the finals. He along with Ryan Giggs will be holding fort in the England’s midfield and if he does recover in time and proves his fitness, England’s chances of faring in the World Cup would go up greatly.
