Italy Sweden Cesena

In an international friendly played at Cesena, a second string Italy side beat Sweden 1-0, with the help of the only goal scored by the centre-back Giorgio Chiellini. The world champions found it very hard to impose themselves on their disciplined opponents, who were also playing without their star player Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Sweden having already been ousted from World Cup qualification failed to make any impressions and seemed very unlikely to make a come back as a side that had glorious 1990s.

AC targeting a big striker

AC milan

The new coach of AC Milan is trying to rope in a big striker for his team to recover the loss of their dynamic player Kaka. Apparently his eyes are set on Peter Couch, who represents England and Brazilian stalwart Luis Fabiano. Pipo Inzaghi is close to his retirement and would find it very hard to play each and every game. So, the AC Milan fans would be hoping that Fabiano and Crouch join the team and quickly adapt to Serie A football.

Crouch, who played as Liverpool forward is known to be a fearless player with incredible skills while Fabiano who is a regular member of the Brazilian national team plays for Seville in La Liga. He was also the top goal scorer in the recently concluded Confederations Cup which was held in South Africa. These additions would surely boost the morale of the AC Milan team.

Latest Updates after 2 day Hiatus

It seems Chelsea has their eyes set on a Robinho signing who may receive Peter Kenyon’s last check for the summer. Kenyon the Chief Executive of Chelsea has been quoted as saying that he would like to sign the Brazilian striker as his last signing of this transfer window. Such a move would really add depths to the already bolstering Chelsea Striker Ranks. The Blues already have Andriy Shevchenko, Didier Drogba, Claudio Pizzaro, and Nicolas Anelka. What a list to choose from.

Other Updates:

  • Roma has made an opening bid for Fiorentina’s Adrian Mutu.
  • The Mafia have reportedly tried to buy Lazio.
  • French national and former Chelsea player Makalele has joined Paris-Saint German.
  • Diego has defied his club Werder Bremer and has joined Brazil to play in the 2008 Olympic Games.

Today’s Story: A highlight for today is not anything real big but big enough. Before signing with Chelsea, Deco waved off very lucrative bids from the MLS and Saudi Arabia. It seems that the MLS is getting more and more serious about bringing in talent to the States. This is good news. He mentions that many teams offered him the money too. Which means that more than one team is getting into the future of American soccer. I also respect Deco’s decision to play for love of the game and not money.

Rumble:

  • Ronaldo is staying at United after all. Maybe it was the words of Gordon Banks and Pele that made him re-think his decision or maybe it was Man U’s decision to keep him. Who knows? The only bit of news is, as of right now, Cristiano Ronaldo is still a red.
  • Carlos Villanueva has joined the Premiership side Blackburn. The Chilean international looks to improve the Blackburn midfield this season.
  • Frank Lampard has finally come to his decision: He wants a move to Inter. The only thing blocking him is Chelsea. Lampard has only a year left on his contract and since Chelsea has made no publicly known moves to extend him, he has looked elsewhere. Also, he is highly coveted by his old boss, Jose Mourinho.
  • There are many reports out that are stating that Kaka would like to leave AC and join Chelsea. Whether these reports are true or not, Milan has said that Kaka is not for sale. Period.

Ronaldinho To AC!

The Ronaldinho era in the Camp Nou has come to an end. Barca’s play-maker will now be playing at the San Siro. This is a very happy moment for me and for all fans of AC!

The Low-Down:

  • Ronaldinho and Barca agree to send him to AC just a day after announcing that some form of an arrangement would occur 72 hours from then.
  • Ronaldinho agrees to a 3 year contract that will end on 30 June 2011. He will be 31 when the current contract ends.
  • AC Milan agree to pay 20 million Euro in exchange for ‘dinho and his services.

Analysis:

Ronaldinho is now the eighth new comer to join Milan. They have been really busy and they should be. While they are one of the top teams of the Serie A, they finished in 5th place. That means that they will not be playing in the Champion’s League this year, instead they will compete for the UEFA Cup. All in all, not bad, but for a premier club like this, the best is expected of them.

‘dinho should fit in nicely with a team that already has quite a few Brazilians. Digao, Kaka, Dida, Emerson, and the young Alexandre Pato will now be his teammates, so adjusting will not be that hard. Also, Gianluca Zambrotta came over on a free transfer. He has played in the spotlight of the Camp Nou and being at the top of La Liga, so the San Siro should not be any different. I think he will do very well here.

AC Milan’s Other Additions:

  • Matheu Flamini
  • Gianluca Zambrotta
  • Luca Antonini
  • Christian Abbiati
  • Marco Borriello
  • Ignazio Abate
  • Marco Storari

A fine pick up for the Rossoneri and something that I will really look forward to.

hey jason, nice article, and definitely something to think about. It is true that there is a huge gulf between say club soccer, high school soccer, and college level soccer. You know that I want to play at the NCAA level, but I do understand that, realistically, I'm just not
