Chelsea kicks off the EPL campaign with a win

It was a dream start for the defending champions Chelsea in the EPL. They defeated West Brom in a one sided affair to kick off their campaign to defend their title. Chelsea displayed some scintillating football during their 6-0 drubbing of the minnows. In another match of the opening day, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur ended their match in a goal less draw. But the biggest shocker of the day come from newly promoted side Blackpool which defeated Wigan Athletic in their own backyard. Blackpool was playing in the division one for the first time in 39 years and what a result to have.

Midfielder Malbranque punished for breaching club discipline

Sunderland midfielder Steed Malbranque came under the scanner for violating the discipline of his club and was punished by Steve Bruce, the club manager for his unspecified behavior. The difference between the two was evident from the fact that Malbranque was not even named in the squad that played against Fulham. Sunderland has not managed any win in the Premier League since November. The situation though seems to be under control as Malbranque had been put in the team for the visit to Wearside.

The loss of striker Robin Van Persie has really been a disaster as far as the Arsenal team is concerned. The Dutch striker who is head and shoulder over the other strikers in the team has really left his club looking out desperately for different options. Although, Arsenal has Eduardo who is a brilliant player, the fact is that he has not been performing up to his standards following his injury. Then there is the Mexican ace Carlos Vela who unfortunately has not been given enough chances to prove his mettle in the Premier League.

Sergio Aguero is apparently very happy at Atletico Madrid, though he has also insisted that he is very pleased at the fact that he is being linked to Chelsea. The speculations ran high over the summer that Aguero was moving to Stamford Bridge and that Atletico had refused a bid of £35 million. Sergio Aguero made the most of the opportunity to impress Carlo Ancelotti, the Chelsea boss, the other night when he played beautifully to score two stunning goals against the Premier League club in a match that ended in a draw with the score of 2-2.

Aston Villa and Chelsea at Villa Park

It will be very interesting to see how the top four credentials of Aston Villa measure up when they go under the scanner against Chelsea at Villa Park. Aston Villa is going to host Chelsea, the Premier League leaders in the next game. The Chelsea team has played remarkably well this season in spite of their poor start and presently stands at the seventh place in the table. Aston Villa, on the other hand, has been very inconsistent and need to pull up their socks before this crucial encounter.

Carlo Ancelotti agrees Matej Delac deal

Carlo Ancelotti, the head coach of the Chelsea team has confirmed that their team has accepted the deal to sign the 17 year old Inter Zapresic goalkeeper, Matej Delac. The bright newcomer would continue to play for his Croatian club until 2011. However, Chelsea has taken the responsibility to pay his wages from now on till he becomes a part of their team.

Man City ready to contest against Adebayor’s charge

Emmanuel Adebayor of Manchester City has been charged for improper conduct by the Football association for running the length of the pitch as he celebrated after scoring in front of the Arsenal fans. The striker faces a three match suspension for violent conduct in the match which Manchester City won 4-2. Adebayor stamped on Robin van Persie who happens to be his former teammate and the Duthchman had to get a treatment for the cut to his face. Adebayor did apologize for his actions later on.

Premier league shaping up

The first weekend of the Premier League lived up to its reputation of producing some great games and the Big Four produced some intrigue and kept the speculations alive. The most startling outcome of the weekend was a 6-1 thrashing received by Everton at the hands of Arsenal at Goodison park. The Arsenal team played beautifully and at no point seemed to be troubled by the Everton side that had finished at fifth position in the last season of the Premier League. Although Arsenal is known to face problems later in the season, they could not have hoped for a better start.

Speculations are that it was due to the consecutive defeats that Everton has suffered in the beginning of the Premier League matches. The manger has the onus to rebuild his team after Everton accepted the Manchester City’s offer for Lescott. After Wayne Rooney’s sale to Man U, the Lscott deal is being considered as the most lucrative deal for Everton making Lescott the costliest British defender.
